October 16th, 2011So as anyone who occasionally visits this site can see, it gets very little use. One problem is that I've failed to keep my promise of uploading all the old stuff that was once on here. Back in the heyday of mkstuff, there were quite a few posts that many people would no doubt like to see again. It'd just remind us of those glorious years between high school and when we all began serious careers that thrust into lifestyles that make us just like our parents. Not that these adult years are bad, they are just not as carefree. So anyway, there is a lot of history that we recorded on here and I need to get that stuff back online.
The other real problem with this site is that I designed it as it used to be. Back in the day, Myspace was pretty much the only real social networking site that existed, but Myspace sucked. People were always making annoying additions to their Myspace pages and the whole thing got pretty gay. Mkstuff was a pretty good way to avoid the nonsense of Myspace. Then Facebook came along. While there are things that I don't like about Facebook, it is overall a very well designed website. Its mobile apps and all that make it incredibly easy to put pictures or whatever online really quick. There is simply no way that little ol' mkstuff can compete with something like that.
And so, while I was pooping a few minutes ago, I had a revelation. Mkstuff should be my own personal blog. I of course think people should be able to comment on stuff and post their own stuff, but overall, the website should be about what is in my own mind. I've wanted to get into writing a bit anyway and so why not do it publicly? I want to write about day-to-day life, my sometimes insane philosophical ideas, and the never-ending political drama of this country and the world.
And just to throw this out there - full disclosure kind of stuff - there is an ulterior motive. Now this is not the main reason I'm doing it, but I did hear not too long ago that Japan will be giving away 10,000 free flights to their country to boost tourism. Supposedly the application process will open up next year and all I can say is that I want one! Traveling is expensive, but if I can cut the cost of a ticket out of the equation, it'd be much more reasonable. The reason this is relevant is that one of the things you have to agree to is that you will write about your trip. But even more importantly, there is speculation that one thing they will be looking for is people who blog and have subscribers. Now I'm not sure if I'll set up some sort of subscriber system, but I might just do it. I think I'm pretty good with words and therefore I think I stand a good chance at winning a ticket. Sure, I know the odds are small, but what a fantastic victory it would be!
So with very little fanfare, I am going to begin reworking the site into a blog....for myself. I still owe it to everybody to get the old posts put back up, but after that, I want to get crackin on setting up a blog.
Normally I would say something like, "check back soon", but I really don't think that necessary. Knowing myself, this change will take 6 months to get done. Tell you what, I'll email you once it's set up. That's all for now! Thanks for reading!
